How does education help a child?
Children living in poverty do not have access to education. World Vision India works among families that are caught in the web of poverty. The first thing the charity organization does is encourage children to go to school. Because education for children in India is not only about possessing knowledge; it is about the transformation that comes from knowing.
Read the story of Malachi. From being a sponsored child in a small village in Tamil Nadu, he has now become a successful engineer and an inventor.
Malachi was World Vision India’s sponsored child in the early 90’s. He initially lived with his parents and siblings in Mumbai. However, after his father lost his job, the family of five moved to his mother’s place in Tamil Nadu. It was here that Malachi was introduced to World Vision India.
Through his school years, Malachi was a bright student and very eager to learn. After completing his 12th grade, Malachi successfully completed a two-year diploma course in electrical engineering and once again returned to the city of dreams (Mumbai) to pursue a career.
He started ‘JM Design and Innovation’ in the year 2017. As his first challenge he wanted to figure out a way to reduce the number of deaths that occur on the Mumbai railway network that ferries around 8 million people daily.
With the desire to change this unfortunately common phenomena, Malachi studied the problem thoroughly and came up with the concept of the Visual Alarm Indicator System (VAIS). The device has been programmed to let out an alarm and light signalling to the passenger that the train is going to move and they are in the danger zone.
Indian Railways decided to do a test run of the patented VAIS device on one door of a train. This technology was also shown to the Indian Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal, who later tweeted a video about it on his official page.
Although at present the product is still being monitored on a trial basis, Malachi is hopeful that there will be a time when his invention sees the light of day.
“I am an example of what can happen if a child is given the opportunity to pursue a good education. If I wasn’t sponsored at that time, I probably would not have had the same observations that I now have. My life would be very different”, says Malachi.
Education for children in India makes a huge difference. Malachi attributes his success to education. If he wasn’t exposed to the world of knowledge, he wouldn’t have been able to identify his skills or carve a niche in the world of technology. All of this happened, because someone somewhere decided to step in and provide help for education.
But unlike Malachi, the sad reality is that education for children in India is not readily available to all. And those who are capable of providing support are not ready to help for education too.
Provide help for education and see children’s lives transformed. Sponsor a child through World Vision India today.
