Did you know that 1.01 crore children (ages 5 to 14) are working either as “main worker” or as “marginal worker”? And Over 9 lakh children under five years died in 2017.

Children are the future of the country. They are the next generation leaders. If we fail to nurture them, it can become a major deterrent to our country’s growth. Sponsor a child to ensure that every child receives proper education and enjoys good health. How does it make a difference when you donate online, you ask?

Picture this, a child does not go to school and toils away day and night. He eventually grows up to become the same person that laboured away without no skills or knowledge whatsoever.

Although, there is an awareness on the importance of education in the urban context, communities living in vulnerable and rural contexts, fail to understand this. Thereby, not encouraging their daughters to complete education or even forcing children to drop out of school to help with the family’s income.

Good health is as important as access to quality education. Bad health can lead to malnourishment in a child. A malnourished child is weak, does not have proper growth and can have developmental delays too. The effects of malnourishment are life-threatening and can last a lifetime.

When you sponsor a child through World Vision India, you can ensure that every child has access to quality education and enjoys good health. The charity organisation uses interventions like Remedial Education Centres(REC) and Literacy Boost Programmes to ensure children attain age-appropriate learning outcomes. These interventions also work towards promoting life skills and value formation and preparing youth for employment through vocational training, skill development and career guidance.

To help every child enjoy good health, World Vision India addresses the causes of malnutrition in children under five years, provides counselling for pregnant and lactating mothers on better nutrition. The organisation also helps assist in setting up nutrition gardens and backyard poultry. Nutrition gardens/Kitchen gardens are effective ways of beating malnutrition. With access to nutritious fruits/vegetables in their own backyards, children have access to nutrition within their reach.

At 19 months old, Priya, a child from a community World Vision India serves, only weighed 6.5 kgs. Her mother is a daily wage labourer and her father works in the city and is away for months. Priya’s mother hardly had any money to buy vegetables or other groceries and had to borrow from her neighbours to feed the child.

To help with Priya’s malnourishment and the family’s condition, World Vision India helped them start a Kitchen Garden of their own. The family was provided with 10 varieties of seasonal plant seeds that can be sown in their own backyard. Training was given on how to prepare the land to sow seeds and maintain them. In weeks, there was an abundance of organic vegetables within their reach. Now Priya’s weight has improved. She is active now.

World Vision India works in simple yet effective ways to help children progress towards a better future.
