24-year-old Abita, a formerly sponsored child of World Vision India, is now a primary school teacher.
Her father, Chandradev, is a tailor and her mother, Girja Devi, a homemaker. When Abita was born, her parents lived in a slum settlement, a little away from where they now live. Abita’s parents always wanted to educate their five children, but to even provide for their day-to-day needs was a major concern. When World Vision India stepped in to sponsor Abita, not only her education but all the families necessities were met. “I was very excited when I received these letters from my sponsor. I used to feel happy about receiving something from someone in another country”, says Abita. She is now pursuing a Bachelor degree in Social Work, which is being supported by World Vision India. Receiving the privilege of education is the driving force that led her to become a teacher. When she was part of the youth group in the community, Abita joined World Vision India as a volunteer.
